Menopause and Stress – Why It Feels Like Too Much
Apr 08, 2025Let’s talk about something we don’t always give enough attention to: stress. Not the everyday kind, but the sort that sneaks up, turns everything up to 11, and makes you feel like you're about to lose it over a missing sock.
When you hit menopause, it’s not just about hot flushes and brain fog — suddenly the small stuff doesn’t feel so small anymore. One tiny thing goes wrong, and it’s game over. You feel it in your mood, your body, your sleep… even your ability to string a sentence together.
😤 You’re Not Losing It
If you've ever found yourself shouting at the kettle or crying over a broken nail, I promise you're not alone. These reactions aren’t you “being sensitive” – it’s your body processing more than it used to. Your stress bucket fills faster.
The overflow? That’s when it gets messy.
🎯 Stress + Menopause = The Perfect Storm
What I’ve noticed personally (and heard from plenty of other women) is how quickly everything builds up during menopause. A bit of pressure, a late night, a partner breathing too loudly… and suddenly you’re tense, anxious, or flat-out exhausted.
It doesn’t take much – but the recovery feels longer, and the emotional hangover? Real.
💡 So What Actually Helps?
Not miracle cures. Not 5am ice baths or silent retreats. Just small, doable things that make your day a bit lighter:
- Move your body – I don’t mean train for a marathon. A short walk, stretching before bed, or even dancing like a nutter in the kitchen does the trick.
- Laugh – Find the thing that makes you laugh until you snort. That release is pure magic.
- Get stuff out of your head – Brain dumps, to-do lists, scribbles on post-its… if it’s out of your brain and onto paper, that’s a win.
- Say no – You don’t have to do everything. Or explain why. Protect your energy like it’s your best bra – only bring it out when absolutely necessary.
🌸 You Deserve Peace (Even in Small Doses)
Let’s not pretend stress disappears – but we can manage it better when we’re honest about what’s going on.
You’re allowed to feel overwhelmed. You’re also allowed to rest, to cancel, to not “push through” every time.
We don’t need to be warriors every day. Some days, putting the kettle on and taking three slow breaths is enough.
Keep it simple.
Keep it kind. And don’t forget to laugh at the madness now and then.
Don't miss a beat!
